Your Rights to Make a Complaint to the NHS

If you are unhappy with an NHS service, you have the right to make a complaint.

    1. Find contact details on your local NHS complaints webpage
    2. Use Contact Scotland BSL to call the NHS
    3. Contact the BDA Scotland’s BSL Helpline
      for support to make your complaint
    4. NHS will need your contact details:
      name, address, CHI number, mobile number and email address
    5. Explain what happened – which NHS service, when (date & time), where, what went wrong
    6. Keep all information and records for evidence
    7. Ask for a meeting with NHS staff.
      Ask them to provide a BSL/English interpreter
    8. Contact the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman
      if you are still not happy with NHS response
